ekadā te paśūn pālāś’
cārayanto ’dri-sānuṣu
cakrur nilāyana-krīḍāś
cora-pālāpadeśataḥ

TRANSLATION

One day the cowherd boys, while grazing their animals on the mountain slopes, played the game of stealing and hiding, acting out the roles of rival thieves and herders.
